Get America in a party-throwing mood and, well, the day of the big game equals excess. How can you do your part in keeping it green?
If you’re hosting a family party for the big game, help make the event green by making your gathering as eco-friendly as possible. Here's a short list of a few simple tips for planning your party this year.
Green The Game
1. Disposable items may equal a quick clean up after a party, but shipping multiple bags of trash to the landfill isn’t ideal for any party. Instead, use your everyday cups, forks and plates. Worried about guests' drinks getting mixed-up? Use simple Post-it Flags to keep track and mark glasses and bottles.
Bonus green tip: We also love stainless steel drinking straws at our house. They are awesome.
2. Waste not, want not. Only offer food at the party that you know your family loves to ensure leftovers don't go to waste. For example, we'll be serving chili as our main dish. After the party, we'll scoop the leftover chili into a muffin tin and freeze for future single-serving size lunch portions.
Tip: Once the chili is frozen, run warm water on bottom of the tray, then put chili servings into a freezer bag to keep fresh.

We'll also be celebrating with these super simple Ice-Cream Bar Footballs.

We simply added football lacing stripes to our Mini Double Caramel Magnum Bars using vanilla frosting. Click here to see the full line-up of Magnum treats.
If you're looking for something a bit more interactive for the kids, grab some Popsicle Minis Ice Cream Sandwiches and check out this cute (and simple) Team Spirit Dessert tutorial.
Hint, hint, hint: It involves sprinkles.
These are both desserts that won't go to waste after the big game. They'll stay fresh in the freezer. The kids will be more than happy to eat any leftovers!
3. Grocery store veggie platters are tempting, but generally over packaged. Reduce waste and throw together a custom veggie tray. If you're looking to keep the dip simple, try this easy Knorr French Onion Dip recipe.
Family Twist: Make the kids kitchen helpers for the day and have them help you peel carrots and set-up a custom veggie dip tray. If you're planning on offering a cheese and sausage platter, check out this simple kid-friendly football platter.
4. Have your recycling bins out and clearly labeled for your guests. People will be coming and going between commercials, so make recycling a convenient option.
Family Twist: Kids love to be officially in charge of projects. Make your little ones "Recycling Superheros" for the day. Cape optional. Ask them to be in charge of ensuring guests know where to recycle their bottles. Have the children color additional recycling signs for containers if needed.
5. If the kids lose interest in the game, keep them entertained with upcycled Popsicle sticks. Here are a few of our favorite craft ideas:
If you save your Magnum sticks from your Ice-Cream Bar Footballs, they'd make awesome airplane wings for this kids' craft project.
Check out that nice curve — wouldn't you agree? Perfect.
