Grandma Rosie's Classic Singer Meets Pink Lightening

Published: Mar 5, 2015 ยท Modified: Apr 10, 2019 by Zina Harrington ยท Post may contain affiliate links

this post contains affiliate links - thanks for supporting usIt has been over five years since I've made a quilt. When my two ladies were born, my free time disappeared. When they became toddlers, the thought of having needles or a cutter accidentally left out terrified me. My quilting supplies remained buried for years, until I stumbled upon this beautiful stack of Moda Fabrics while doing spring cleaning. Oh Joy!

The girls couldn't resist, so we busted the pack open. I am reminded of this quote, "Creative clutter is better than idle neatness."

We grabbed Grandma Rosie's old Singer and partnered it up with "Pink Lightening." I am serious. That is what the machine is called, check out the official name on Amazon. We love this little kid-friendly sewing machine. It rocks.

After doing a bit of sewing, we discovered that the cutting board and ruler were broken, we headed to the local store for replacements. Here are my favorite basic quilting supplies:

  • Olfa Cutting Mat 18" x 24"
  • Fiskars Donna Dewberry Collection Easy-To-Read Ruler
  • Fiskars 45mm Contour Rotary Cutter
  • Grabbit Magnetic Pin Cushion
  • Moda Fabrics

This is the first big sewing project I've done with the girls. Quinn has made some cool small stuff, like these handmade felt envelopes. I am excited to dive into a long-term project with them. I'll be sure to share the final quilt when we are finished.
