Goofy Goop Kid's Science Experiment
Goop. Gak. Flubber.
This is a must-try rainy day activity! The amount of fun spent playing with this unique rubbery stuff is potentially unlimited. Today we are guest posting over at Melissa & Doug, offering 5 other creative ways to play with Goop. Stop by and check it out!

Ready to get started? You can find an easy-to-follow recipe for Goop, as well as a great "How does it work?" explanation here. Have I mentioned my new favorite scientist to you already? Move over Bill Nye, I am smitten with Steve Spangler. There is a lot of info about Goop on the web, but...

One thing no one mentions is that
Goop can be hilariously LOUD.

5 steps to turning Goop into a giggle fest:

  1. Find a nice sturdy cup. We experimented and tried a few different shaped cups. You want something extremely sturdy that won't buckle or break under pressure. You need something not too big, but not too small. *Please use common sense: Glass is breakable!
  2. Grab your Goop. The amount of Goop needed may depend on your cup. Start with a handful about the size of a softball.
  3. Roll the Goop into a ball. The stretchy material is always shifting as you try to move it around. This step alone may induce laughter.
  4. Push the Goop into a tight space. Set your Goop on top of the rim of the cup and slowly push it down using two or more fingers. It might take a bit of manipulation to get it just right. We also experimented pushing the Goop into the cup with a variety of tools. Throughout most of our experimenting we used the Melissa & Doug Clay Play set.
  5. Laugh.  As Charles Dickens once said, “There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter.” Join your kids and laugh with them.

See these steps in action in this video:

Don't forget to pop over to find out 5 other creative ways to play with Goop.

What's your favorite way to play with Goop? Let's chat in the comments.

PS: We paired up this activity with our weekly movie night. We enjoyed the classic Absent Minded Professor and, of course, we had popcorn for dinner. You might also consider reserving Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss from the library. Looking for more info? Our good friends over at TinkerLab and Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas have blog posts featuring ideas, recipes, and Goop photos too!
