5 Tips For An Unforgettable Day At The Beach

Published: May 22, 2012 · Modified: Apr 10, 2021 by Zina Harrington · Post may contain affiliate links

Grab the sunscreen, let’s roll! Playing in the sandbox is a blast, but going to the beach opens the door to a world of possibilities and summer fun. Here are five tips for an unforgettable day at the beach:

1. Bring a variety of tools.

Any sand toy will ensure a creative day. Don’t underestimate the power of a simple bucket. It lets the imagination run free!

2. Let your child be the general contractor.

Let your child be in control. Experimenting with different building techniques and failing can be an educational blast. Resist the urge to direct; rather smile and be the assistant for the day.

3. Keep them protected.

Make sure everyone has on a base layer of water-resistant sunscreen before you leave the house, so the kids can hit the sand as soon as you get to the beach! Once the kids are sandy, applying lotion can be challenging–so keep spray sunscreen on hand for hassle-free protection.

4. Let them rest and relax.

Playing in the sun can be draining. Let your child rest. Avoid beach meltdowns by ensuring everyone stays hydrated, including yourself. Kids can get ravenous at the beach, so having snacks on hand instantly makes you a hero. Nothing is better than fresh, cool fruit if you have time to prepare a small cooler. Crackers and other munchies always go over well, too.

5. Go beyond building a castle; build a community.

Creating multiple small dwellings connected by small waterways is a great way to get a group of children to cooperate. If you are at the beach with a single child, it is a great way to meet friends. I guarantee other children will ask if they can help, too!
