Over our front entry I have a crafted sign that reads, “Simplify.”
Sometimes simplify means taking one extracurricular class instead of two, sometimes it means boxed mac & cheese for dinner instead of homemade, and... sometimes it means giving your child a piece of red cloth instead of a Superman costume.
If you give your child a Superman costume, they imagine themselves as Superman.
If you give your child a piece of red cloth they have the opportunity to be Superman, Little Red Riding Hood, She-Ra, or even a pizza-man lady (as my daughter has informed me she aspires to be). They can use the material as a scarf for other heroic tasks too — it can be used as a blanket for a stuffed shelter animal or as a bandage while playing doctor. The options are endless.
Walk around your house today and remind yourself that...
Imagination comes of not having things. — LeRoy Neiman
What toys do you have laying about that are robbing your child of the ability to foster their imagination?
Declutter guilt-free, my friend. Remember — Less is more.
