“The best camera is the one you have with you,” over the course of our friendship, I cannot tell you how many times Tiffany Dahle has said this to me. In fact, when I think the quote, it is her voice inside my head. When she suggested I do an iPhone version of Project 366 I was sold.
Benefits of doing Project 52 or Project 366 on a smart phone?
No extra luggage. You carry your phone with you nearly everywhere anyway. Seriously, how much effort is it to take one measly shot a day/week?
- Your smart phone is light. When I participate in Project 365 in 2010 I lugged my heavy ass camera in my purse. I have arm muscles of steel now.
- Automatic uploading. Most smart phone apps allow you to upload directly to Flickr with the click of a button. Honestly, for me this is the best perk!
- Drink the Apple Kool-Aid. If you join me you’ll be in good company. The iPhone 4 is the most popular camera uploading to Flickr. Check out the stats. Watch out Canon & Nikon, here come the “everyday photographers”!!
- iPhoneography. Yeah, it is sort of a catch phrase, but it makes me smile. There are so many amazing apps out there. Check out this wonderful eBook (PDF) full of mini-tutorials. Also, January 5th Creative Live has a free webinar on the subject that looks stellar!

I’ll be using in 2012 to make the project a bit spicier.

If you’re interested in participating in Project 52 or Project 366 , all you need to do right now is:

PS: Why am I participating in this project? Here’s my story…
Would you believe Tiffany and I have been friends for nearly eight years and this is the one & only shot I have of the two of us? We share a birthday week and back in the day when we used to be co-workers we’d host an annual night on the patio to celebrate how swell we are. Fast forward years later: we live in different states, each have two little girls, are constantly busy, but still always up for a quick “how’s it going?” chat.
Last year literally days after completing the 2010 Project 365 Tiffany asked me to participate in a Project 52 (a-photo-a-week version) with her for 2011. My initial thought was, “Hell no, girl.”
I’d just finished dragging my camera around for 365 flippin days, worrying about screwing up the project by missing shot 285, constantly searching for something creative to take a pic of besides the girls; did I mention I carried my heavy ass camera around with me *every day* in my purse?!? Three hundred and sixty five days.
When she asked me to join her for 2012 though, I paused, “Let me think about it.” My baby’s birthday was in December, ok she is 7 now (but she will always be my baby). As I looked through my photo albums I realized how few shots I took over the past year. We’ve got pics of the piano recital and of the first day of school, but we missed out on shots of the ordinary days. When I watched this video it broke my heart. I want to have those everyday shots in my iPhoto library.
“The best camera is the one you have with you,” over the course of our friendship I cannot tell you how many times Tiffany has said this to me. In fact, when I think of the quote, it is her voice inside my head.
When she suggested I do an iPhone version of Project 366 I was sold. I absolutely love my iPhone. I carry it everywhere. It is light. And my favorite part? I can automatically upload my photos to Flickr. Honestly, this couldn’t make the project any easier. Won’t you join us?
