I always look forward to Thanksgiving. Gathering together with family and friends... filling my belly with turkey and cranberries... I love every moment of it. This year, I decided to start celebrating a little early. You see, my three-year-old son has recently discovered a love of reading on his own. The small hiccup is that he isn't yet able to sound out words. That sounds like a BIG problem, doesn't it?!
Thankfully, I am a kindergarten teacher by training and I know just what to do in this type of situation. I hopped onto our computer and created early reader mini-books for him.
All of the pages use predictable text and strong picture-word connections to help my new reader read independently.
And since Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away, I created a simple story called, "This is Thanksgiving." I'm excited to share it with all of you today. Here's a sneak peek:
