Our family recently visited Lake County Illinois, "In Lieu of Disney." The area offered us a variety of family-friendly activities, events, and restaurants to explore. We enjoyed a week at KeyLime Cove resort and spent a few days at the theme park, Six Flags Great America. We were struck with one day of solid rain, but we didn't let that get the best of us!
Rinks Side Sports, located in Gurnee Mills, is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with your family rain or shine.
When we made plans to head to Rink Side Sports our original intention was to rent skates, but we never made it to the ice! We were quickly distracted by the other activities available. Below are our three favorite ways to play at Rink Side Sports:
- Black-light mini-golf. The girls had a blast playing the 18 holes of "White Shark" black light mini golf.
- Laser tag. The 2000 square foot laser tag area was awesome. The arena obviously can hold a large group of people, but because the girls and I were novices the staff let us do the sessions solo. This made all the difference in the world. We had a blast!
- Video games. We also enjoyed strolling through the hundreds of video games. We spent a great deal of time playing an automated game of classic-wooden bowling. Huzzah!
Our family worked together "earning tickets" while we played video games. Of course, this made skee-ball a group favorite. At the end of the day our family traded in our points for two prizes ... a giant whoopie cushion and a giant slinky.
Life is more fun when things are BIG. These two prizes were a hit all week at the hotel. Watch our Instagram videos below:
That whoopie cushion still makes me laugh!
I highly recommend Rink Side Sports to parents looks for an afternoon of fun. It would also be a great location for a birthday party. If you have any questions about the facility, let me know below.
The good folks of Rink Side Sports graciously invited me and my family to spend a day at their Family Center. We had a lovely time visiting Lake County, Illinois this summer. As always, I am honored to share my adventures with you. Click here to read our full sponsor/affiliate disclosure.
