10 Ways to Celebrate Spring — Regardless of the Temperature Outside

Published: Mar 8, 2015 · Modified: Apr 10, 2019 by Zina Harrington · Post may contain affiliate links

My calendar says "spring is coming," but Mother Nature disagrees. Check out these ten simple ways you can celebrate spring in your home, regardless of the temp outside.

1. GET THE KIDS DECORATING

Have the kids help you decorate the house for the season. My spring inspiration began with the new Happy Handmade eBook from MollyMoo and friends. I loved the simplicity of this pastel Hand-Painted Paper Chain from ArtBar and the DIY Scented Candles project from Meri Cherry (projects from the eBook featured below).

 2. HERE COMES THE SUN — SO DANCE

Celebrate Daylight Savings or the Vernal Equinox with the Beatles. Play Here Comes the Sun and enjoy some singing and dancing with the kiddos.

3. FLAVOR YOUR WATER

Add a dash of fresh lemon or lime to your water and you'll feel like you're in a brand new latitude.

At our house, I love to add a single drop of Lemon or Lime Essential Oil in a glass of fresh water. It is the perfect dash of sunshine on a spring day. Learn more about buying essential oils online here.

4. TAKE A TRIP TO THE LIBRARY

Reserve some spring focused books from the library about seasonal changes, flowers, and planting seeds. Spread a blanket and host an indoor picnic on the living room floor with snacks. Call it a "reading party" and the kids will be excited to dive into the new selection of titles.

5. GROW SPRING FLOWERS INSIDE

If Mother Nature won't play nice, bring the bulbs inside. During the dreary start of spring, you can enjoy the powerful fragrance of hyacinths, the sweet scent of paperwhite narcissus, and the cheerful color of tulips, as well as other spring-flowering bulbs. Check out these two tutorials: force spring bulbs in dirt or just water.

6. BAKE FLOWER CUPCAKES AND WARM-UP THE HOUSE

7. PLAN A WEEKEND OF CAMPING — INSIDE

Don't let the weather get you down. Go camping indoors! Set up camp in the living room and get ready for a family adventure. Follow these 5 tips to make the most of your expedition.

8. ADD A TOUCH OF YELLOW

Hang a "sunshine yellow" wreath or add brightly colored pillows to your home for an instant touch of spring, regardless of the temp outside.

9. SPRING CLEANING WITH DIY LAVENDER SPRAY

Turn on the music and make spring cleaning a party. If you want to get the kids involved, download this free spring cleaning printable from Melissa & Doug. Make your own all-purpose cleaner with a few drops of lemon essential oil and add a touch of spring to your home. Check out these two DIY cleaner recipes.

We've also been using the Joy Essential Oil Blend from the Young Living Premium Starter Kit in the diffuser at the house. This is one of my favorite spring scents from their Everyday Collection.

10. RAINY DAY FUN

April showers bring May flowers. Later in the season, we intend to plant a children's garden, so we are also excited to do the Mini-Mosaic Bird Bath project by Buzz Mills and the Felt Fairies by Wild Olive from within the Happy Handmade Craft eBook. Too cute!

This eBook is full of creative ideas for rainy spring days. Buy your copy online here today.
