Take a walk with me my friend…

Does the motive matter? Last week we were finally blessed with a break from the dreary gray of winter. I dropped the girls off for school and found myself with 45 minutes, a beautiful sunny day, and a mild temp. I started home excited to get some house work done before heading to work.

Then Project 365 popped into my mind, “How cool would it be to have some photos of our gorgeous little mountain in my collection?” I turned the car around and headed to the state park. My favorite part of participating in a Project 365 is it forces me to find beauty in every single day (see video).

As I took my first step that morning I couldn’t help but think of this quote,

Every morning, when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand-new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live in a way that these twenty-four hours will bring peace, joy, and happiness to ourselves and others. {Source: Peace is in Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh}

I grabbed my iPhone and headed off towards the tower at the top of the mountain; life passes in an Instagram. Click on any of the images above to see the Flickr set and enlarge!

A wise friend of mine, upon retiring after thirty years of service to the Montessori community, told me a child is like the moon reflecting the light in their universe.  This analogy has always stuck with me.  Our children echo our parenting style, our religious beliefs, our creativity, and our curiosity. I may have started my mini morning quest in search of a good photo, but it ended with peace, a smile, and warmth in my heart (despite it being only 28 degrees). I hope to teach my girls that sometimes a sink full of dirty dishes is acceptable if it has given you the opportunity to live. May you embrace the Gift of an Ordinary Day this week too!
