I have an example from this past Thanksgiving. Friends of ours own a bike shop that hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner. The dinner has grown so much that now the City is involved as a partner, and they shut down 2 city blocks to feed people and give out clothing and toys. We decided to help this year. We brought organic produce (for families to take with them) and showed up at the event to see how we could help — with the baby on my chest and 2 year old in hand. The help they needed was for people to pick up trash and clear tables. My 2 year-old instantly wanted to get involved and loved the task of finding trash to put in our bag. It was priceless. He does this at the park now too — if there is trash, he won’t play until he has picked it all up.
